my 2007 jeep patriot runs sluggish after 4th gear, causing me to drive it harder in rmp's, blowing though gas, check engine light flashing

That flashing light is trying to tell you what is wrong. Get the CEL codes read.

I have the same problem only no check engine light and therefore have no idea what the deal is and can only guess. So far, oil change, i use high octane gas and only buy from shell or chevron, changed the spark plugs, put in new alternator and yesterday changed out the EVAP purge solenoid. All these things with no improvement. I'm reading multiple reports about this very issue on every forum possible with not a single one having the answer. Please share what code it is throwing when you have it read.
