Why is my Hummer spitting and sputter? How do I fix this?

Asked by RobynLA Jan 26, 2018 at 03:21 PM about the 2006 Hummer H3 4dr SUV 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Did you resolve this problem?  I am having the same issue.  My engine light
is on and it is spitting and sputtering. My H3 went dead on me and I was able
to coast to safety.  There was an error message that read something about
the "traction." I looked the error message up and after some research it said
it could be my spark plugs need changing.  My dad and I changed the  spark
plugs and found a hole in the breather hose.  We replaced the hose.  There
was some oil that leaked onto one or two of the spark plugs...we cleaned
that up as best we could and replaced the hose.  Ran fine for a few days and
then started spitting and sputtering. I took it to a mechanic.  He put seafoam
straight through the high pressure fuel line doing a whole induction cleaning
service and cleaned the fuel injectors.  Again, it ran fine for a few days then
started spitting and sputtering again.  Can anyone please tell me what
experiences they have had to fix this or what you think it might be?

The check engine light is on. It goes off periodically...was on last two days. I put seafoam in gas tank yesterday and engine light was off this morning. I don't have a scanner. I bought H3 11/2017 and hope to have for many years. Is this something I should invest in? Also I forgot to mention the mechanic also cleaned the throttle body. Thanks for your help Tom!

h3 2007 faulty wire harness cost $2200.00 to fix at dealer they didn't want to fix it so I made them do it . all the same symptoms caused by broken breather hose oil melts the coating .

Do you happen to know the actual name of that harness? I have the exact same issue with my 2007 H3. I was changing my spark plugs and noticed oil was leaking from a big hole in my breather hose and engine had problems starting after I replaced the hose. I can replace it myself as I have worked in electronics most of my life. I just need to know the name of the harness so I can order the part.
