2003 s type message says drivers door is open when it is closed. Is the latch bad or is it electrical?

65000 mi. 3.0L  Is there a common problem with the door latches?

WD40 was my first try, then tapping with hammer on latch bolts, Then took door apart, took out latch, tested its operation, oiled again, still no solution. New latch list price $365. Dealer cost $274. Still crossing my fingers, ( that didn't work either)
