Alternator light

2006 infinity G35 My alternator light
comes on when I start the car and goes
off in 5 secs.

I think it means it takes the alternator 5 seconds to bring the resting battery up to the proper level of 12 to 14 volts. Maybe you could confirm that with a volt meter. If your battery is over four years old, you might want to have it tested. If the test shows it is still pretty strong, then I would suspect the alternator might be the weak one. It can be tested on the car too. I don't think your car will have a sudden failure but keep an eye on things to see if it gets worse.
