Why do the rpms drop when a/c is on? Engine also dies.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I can turn on my a/c when engine is on and the r.p.m. guage goes down to 5 and below.  The engine also dies if not warmed up with the a/c on.  Can you pinpoint the problem?

I also have electrical problems with turn signals going out, gas guage bottoms out when I know there is gas.

Sowitch is sounds like you have a couple of issues here. you may want to have the car hooked up to a computer to have a diagnostic check run to see exactly what is wrong. If I'm not mistaken Autozone does it for free.

I've had it scanned, but the repair guy said he didn't get anything. I've had a co-worker tell me it could be the EGR valve. He also told me the trouble with my turn signals working now and then is a short in the column and that the short will travel. Does all this sound right? I solved the gas gauge problem with adding techron to my gasoline. That one was an easy fix. Thanks for all your help. I just stay so busy, it's hard to find time to put the "old girl" in the shop.
