amber light is on the 2005 x type won't shift out of park

Possible park/neutral safety switch or brake switch. Check to see if the brake lights come on, if they aren't then its the brake switch. If it's not either of those then there could be problems in the I.P. or ignition, or TCM or the transmission itself.

just checked the brake lights and they work, I only bought the car on Friday in Aldershot and it ran great all the way home, it was parked in the rain all weekend but i just looked under the bonnet and it doesnt seem to be wet anywhere, when i turn the key there it doesnt do anything, but the dials go up ok but when i turn the key back they go to just above zero and then there is a little noise before they drop to the off position, radio works, sat nav works but the window defroster is on and i cant switch it off

The car turns on I have it in park but the car rolls like it’s a neutral shift gears doesn’t move what could be the problem I do not think it’s the transmission could it be a sensor
