Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i started the car fine and ran it for a few hours, after returning home he car sat for an hour then when i went to leave it didnt want to start then when it did it sputtered and died soon after. the car would ony stay running if i gave it gas for a couple minutes. once running it would bogg down everytime i came to a stop, a couple times it even died....but would fire back up right away. i noticed alot of exaust and fuil smell when trying to start. what could cause this..........just replace altenator, distr cap, rotor, and ignition control mod.

sounds like your carb needs a tune. either running too rich or too lean

well the only concern i have is that, when the car is cold it starts right up and runs great....i ran some injection cleaner thru it and didnt seem to make a difference. the car was setting for a bit when i bought it and i noticed alot of the vaccum lines were dry rotting....could this be a good cause the run lean or to rich? this whole thing only happens after i run for a bit then park the car and shut it off.....then she wants to act up on restart
