If it won't hold a charge then there is a leak. Best thing is to have an a/c certified mechanic look at it. If you want to try to fix it yourself go to the parts store and get some a/c dye, put it in the system and find the leak with a special black light.
If you can't find the leak with the black light, your evaporator is probably leaking. you definitely want a professional to do that job.
