2007 Camry Warm Engine Won't Start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all, so I've seen some other threads on here with a similar problem, and it
seems like the fuel pump may be the issue. But here are the details: when I stop
for gas/rest stop after driving for 1+ hours and the stop takes me >5-7 minutes,
my Camry will crank totally fine (battery and starter are fine), but it's kind of
sluggish to catch (takes 2-3 strokes more than normal), and it will even catch and
start for a second, but then will shudder and stall out. Then when I try to start
again, it will crank but not start until I let the engine cool (I've been popping the
hood to expedite this) for 15-25 mins. Other times after I stop, it won't even catch
that first time and I know I need it to cool before trying again.

I've had the PCV valve, air intake filter, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, and
MAF sensor changed out. It was running good a few weeks after those repairs, but
then the check engine light came on (MAF sensor code...out of range) and it
started to do the same thing as above (sluggish or failed start when warm). I had
an OEM MAF put in. Again, check engine light for MAF periodically comes on after
those sluggish or failed starts, even with the second new MAF sensor, then after
driving awhile the check engine light goes away. LMK if you need any other details.
Could this still be a fuel pump issue? What could cause the repeated MAF code
popups after the warm engine starts? Thanks all!

I'd look at replacing the coolant temp sensor, but there is no code for it. My bet would be the fuel pump is getting weak and it is time to replace.

Thanks, and this car has 180K+ on it, I should have specified in the question.

You have classic symptoms of leaking fuel injectors. The engine runs fine, then when turned off for a few minutes, leaked gasoline floods the engine/intake. You wait for a quarter to a half hour, and that's enough for the fuel to evaporate..... Next time this happens, hold down the throttle while starting. This Wide Open Throttle (WOT) is programed into the computer to clear out excess fuel..... Now, plan to replace the injectors, which should have been done before you hit 180,000 miles.

FYI, I replaced the fuel pump and this solved the issue. Car runs great now. Thanks for the suggestions.
