Help with swapping 98 engine transmission into 95 Silverado 4x4

Asked by Keegan Oct 24, 2021 at 10:11 PM about the 1995 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I threw a rod and blew the 3-4 clutch pack in my 95 I acquired
the engine and transmission both working from a 98 they're
both 5.7 l I've got the 98 engine and transmission installed. I
swapped out that whole top end (heads and intake) of the
engine so that I could have the same top end from the 95 and
use the same components but can't seem to get it to turn
over or start I'm curious what I've done wrong or what I need
to do to get it to work.

The 1998 model is OBD II. But the 1995 model is probably OBD I. At GM a '95 model could be either OBD I or OBD II. The two systems are completely different computer control systems and are not compatible with each other at all! It honestly would have been better to cut your losses with the '95. At GM 1982 thru 1994 is OBD II and 1996 to current is OBD II. Sorry!! Jim
