96 c1500 305 Bogged down in drive with no overdrive

Asked by tristanh Sep 10, 2016 at 10:30 AM about the 1996 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Cheyenne Extended Cab LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

4l60e tranny, 305 vortec. Truck acts
sluggish when I take off out of drive to
where I have to floor it for it to go at all.
Tires won't even spin when it's wet
outside. Also, when I shift into drive it's 3rd
gear, when I shift into 3rd it's second,
when I shift into 2nd its first. However
neutral reverse and park are normal.
Recsntly replaced the transmission, new
spark plugs & wires, new flywheel, new
muffler, if anyone has any ideas it would be
awesome. just wanna get this thing
running straight

I think you may have a couple different problems compounding. I think the power problem might be with your engine and not the trans. Say for example plug converter. The trans not being in the right gear could something like maybe , just maybe the transmission is the wrong years to your truck or the linkage is wrong or if it's a rebuild them the rebuilder assembled some wrong with valve body. Something like what you have going on would be best looked at by a good shop with experience for mechanics not somewhere like Firestone or Goodyear. Not to say those places don't. But for the most part they have younger guys doing front end, tires, and brakes
