Why does my RPM MPH gauges in my 97 Chevy Silverado 1500 stop working?

I be driving down the street and both of the
gauges drop down to zero and when I try to
give it gas it feels heavy please help .

Hey did you ever figure out the problem? Mine is doing the same thing. Research sounds like it could be the ignition switch.

It was my alternator. It would test good but it wasn't. Changed it, now it drives like a champ.
