wont stay running

i recently got a box truck with a 5.7 vertc it was out of gas we found out from
sitting it is getting gas up to the mototr but it wont keep running we put gas in
the carb  thru the air cleaner it will keep idling as long as i put gas in it how do
i get it re pressurized or what ever to get the gas flowing right

you should hear the fuel pump turn on and prime the system when you turn the key ,it.s not really loud . check for ground and power at the fuel pump connection , are the injectors firing ? Is there fuel pressure ?Let us know what happens .
