How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? If your fully obd1 compliant, you should be able to check some codes, yourself, as long as the check engine lamp works. Is the transmission shifting ok? Problems at higher rpms that are not transmission related, check for blockage of some kind. The first two things I think of are fuel and exhaust. Fuel pressure is good, filter ok? The exhaust isn't blocked for some reason?
