95 chevy 6.5 turbo. The engine looses rpm while driving @ 50 to 60mph then will run @ idle all day. While running @ idle it died & will not try to restart. Where to start?

When you notice the RPM drop at 50 to 60 does it feel like you loose power or is it a smooth transition. If it's smooth it's most likely the torque converter locking up at highway speeds for better milage. As for the idle and die. Wont crank or cranks and wont start. If there is no power you may have a weak altenator.
I need to clear up some things. The rpm is running @ 2500 & drops to 1700 for only 2 to 3 seconds. The second item while @ idle it died & will not fire cranks over just fine.

I'd start looking at the fuel system. I'm not a diesel guy so I can't help. Someone should be able to help. Fuel filter? Water separator? Clean replace look for debris or moisture?
