1991 Buick Park Avenue won't start

Asked by PBrandonp Jan 19, 2013 at 04:30 PM about the 1991 Buick Park Avenue FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently installed a remote starter on
my 1991 Buick Park
Avenue. Turns out it must have been
a bad unit after talking
with the tech. I removed it and
returned it for a new one. I
went out this morning to move the
car up near the garage
to install the new unit but the car
wouldn't start. I put the
key in the ignition, turned it to the
start position and
everything does like it is supposed to
sent juice to the
starter but nothing. I hooked a wire
from the positive post
on the battery then touched it to the
ignition post on the
starter (with the key in the run
position), it starts just fine but
immediately dies like the system isn't
getting an electrical
current to keep it running, almost as
if I just turned the
ignition back off. I'm not sure what to
do next.

NEVER install one on anything pre-1996. The run side of the computer will not reconise it and will most often send a pulse of extra energy to your ignition moduel burning it out. (located under your 3 coil packs). Try leaving your hot side of the battery unhooked for at least 30 min. The computer may reset it self. ( %20 chance)

I move the coil pack on my 1991 Buick and had to cut 4 wires on the main harness off the coil pack so I can move in and I put it all back together and now it won't start
