gear selection light failure-- sometimes dims off and on

loose wire between the cluster and the fuse box or between the fuse box and the shifter

The diode in the cluster is probably failing and the only way to fix it is to remove the cluster and solder in a replacement or see if a solder point on that light diode is failing, it is extremely complicated to do and hopefully this isn't the start of the rest of the cluster lighting going out.
