This happened to me, too, while driving my sister's car. She finally took it to a dealer and they were able to get the hatch open. Apparently, the door somehow got stuck on the carpet in the rear compartment and they had to climb inside and pull the carpet free. Don't know how it happened, but I'm glad they were able to figure it out.
