i think my fuel gauge is reading wrong

i put £38 in petrol only drove 30 miles an its now on the red

Your fuel level sender had gone bad. You will need to replace them. These are most common in the R56.

it may be your floater in your gas tank which it will cause the fuel gauge to read wrong you should have that checked out because i have a mini clubman and my floater went bad a few days ago which i got it replaced it was 290 dollars total for labor and the part
