2006 Jeep TJ cannot tighten serpentine belt....auto tensioner dosnt tightnen it enough...Any suggestions?

Asked by jeepinlimedlover Jun 25, 2010 at 06:11 PM about the 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had to replace Water pump and thermostat, which everything went fine loosened belt to remove power steering pump to get to water pump. Once all replaced and power steering pump put back on. I had put the belt back on using the auto tensioner, now once started the engine squeals like you couldn't believe, and then when i turn on A/C the belt slips on the fan pulley and wont turn it at all which I believe there is too much slack in the belt. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
