sloppy shifter worn bushings. Try holding shifter to one side while shifting into park. also, disconnect positive cable to release key if needed

the shifter has a problem most likely either worn bushings. If it has play hold it to one side when shifting in park see if that helps.

It's most likely the rack and sector assembly in the steering column. GMs of that era had problems with them breaking when they got old. Hope that helps! Jim
