07 Pontiac Grand Prix key entry

Asked by GuruWGXGV Jun 04, 2018 at 11:56 PM about the 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My key won't enter the key whole all the way. I'm unable to turn the key so I can
not enter my vehicle without the key fob. What mechanism is not working?
What part would be necessary to correct this? Furthermore, is there a
possibility to correct this issue without replacing a part? If so, please explain.

This used to happen to me when it was freezing cold. I bought a small can of lock de-icer which would squirt a measured amount of isopropyl alcohol into the lock barrel and unstick the pins in the tumbler. Don't try to force the barrel to turn. If you do you may break something and then your only alternative will be to have a locksmith replace the tumbler.
