Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is IMS failure a big problem in a 2007
Boxster S?

If it fails it can ruin the engine. The only way to replace it on your year car is to tear down the engine.

The non-serviceable IMS bearing used on model year 2006 and later M96 and M97 engines should have the grease seal removed as part of preventative maintenance. More info on how to extend the life on your Porsche's IMS bearing can be found here: https://lnengineering.com/products/the-definitive-guide-and-faq-for-porsche-ims- bearings/my06-08-porsche-cayman-boxster-911-ims-bearing.html
