What should I expect for next repair?

Asked by rbmac Oct 18, 2016 at 12:26 PM about the 2007 Subaru Outback 2.5i Wagon AWD

Question type: General

1) Used 2007 Subaru Outback, 171,000 miles with new brakes, timing belt and
2 tires?  It's selling at $5,500. Good shape, no accidents.    Also,
2) Used 2005 Subaru Forester "LL Bean", 129,000 miles. Brakes feel "soft" as
pedal goes low to floor. Good shape, no accidents.

don't buy any of them, way to many miles and something will go soon with that many miles. save your pennies and buy something less miles on it..

It's a gamble, transmission or head gaskets could fail.... The Outback is a better idea than the Forrester, because of the new timing belt, brakes and tires...it's a nicer ride than the truck like Forester as well....but, what is the body like. If the car is in SoCal, it might be something you want to take a chance on, otherwise, skip it... They both have a good record, see http://www.carcomplaints.com/Subaru/Outback/2007

Both are way past the time head gaskets start failing which can cost around 2k to replace but if the price is right and an inspection shows no problems with the head gaskets then go for it. I would pick the Forester but make sure the seller fixes the brakes as you could easily put a grand into them if a lot of things are wrong.

You don't give prices on both so we can't comment on which is a better value.

Better be a 2007 Limited otherwise it's overpriced, see this below, http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/2007/Subaru/Legacy-4- Cyl/Wagon-5D-Outback-I-Limited-AWD/Values
