leaking coolant

Asked by Angela191314 Feb 18, 2016 at 06:59 PM about the 2007 Dodge Charger R/T RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car is Leaking coolant. Shop says it the
beginning of the head gaskets going bad.
Wanted to keep car. Was going to pay it off
this year. Bought it used and financed it.
Someone recommended I trade it in while
it's still running. How much longer is it
likely to keep running. Any suggestions on
whether to repair or trade?

IF the car is in good shape and you like the car, I would think about getting it repaired.

If there is no oil in the radiator, it can likely be repaired by using a can of stop leak. Not the preferred remedy, but a lot cheaper than an engine tear down. I fixed the same type of leak in my Jeep using stop leak. That was 20,000 miles ago. BTW, that fix was recommended by the mechanic at the Jeep dealership. He also said that you could use black pepper in an emergency, but I have not tried that. Use a good brand of product i.e. Barr's etc..

I have a 08 dodge charger been dealing with the same problem going on a month now,WHICH IS SAD, but I always stayed on top of it. No no oil ever got into radiator plus trying to get mine fixed this morning....From wat I'm reading, I'm guessing it's either throttle body, thermostat , or the vaccum system. Which leads me to say what's the cost for either of those repairs anyone please.
