Do you have any lights at all? running lights, blinkers, brake lights? I have personally experienced a very similar problem due to the trucks brainsbox (ECM/PCM or engine control module / power control module). My regular backup lights and turn signals would work fine, but one side of brakelights would not work to the trailer. I finally paid to have someone diagnose it, and they showed it was the brainsbox.

You may need to check the wiring to the plug to see if by some chance it got caught on something and broke.
