A flashing check engine light and hesitations indicates misfires. Scan for the OBDii Trouble codes to determine what cylinder or cylinders are misfiring. At a minimum, I would replace all the spark plugs if they are original, and any coil or coils that show up during the scan of the vehicle. An auto part store can scan it for you for free or borrow one. Post the 4 digit codes back here if you want further help.
