How to fix cruise control on my 2001 Saturn SL1

I just bought 2001 Saturn SL1 ,I am happy w/ the car.
How to fix cruise control on this car, the control light can turn on, but when I want to set cruise, it won't cruise.
I need advise what part should I replace ?
Cause I do not want to go to repair shop.

Sounds like the cruise unit, located under the hood, should run less than $100 at an auto parts store.

What if the child safety on off lever is engaged above the lock mechanism on the door itself.. then what...

Noooooo. Its your throttle positioning sensor going out.. It happened to me if u plug in obdII it will say something like tps low voltage/throttle pedal misaligned......
