Engine flooding then dying immediately when starting

1995 SL2 165,000 miles Engine is flooding and then dying upon starting. Changed ects
sensor and left with mechanic to no resolve. HELP! just bought the car and only drove 320
miles. feeling like i got ripped off!

check engine light is not on.from my understanding 1995 had limited codes and descriptions. my mechanic says it could be costly because he can't get a read on what is causing problem. paid 1500.00 for car .how much do i want to spend to fix it is his question.
