Car dies when exiting the freeway in traffic

So today I drive from South Lake Tahoe to Sacramento ca
it was really hot a lot of traffic took my 2 hours or so when
getting off at my exit traffic was backed up I slowed and
when I came to a stop the car was idling weird went from
normal to so low the car shut off so I started it and it died
again so I started it a 3rd time gave it gas and it was able
to drive but it felt like I was running outa gas sputtering
and car had a shake to it never done it before also the oil
light came on then off right away car smelled hot and
maybe a lil like oil wasn't over heating or anything I drive a
few more miles didn't die but the rpms were a lil higher
than normal then a lil lower and had a slight shake and
sputter then went away and is running normal I got a oil
change 5 months ago could it be my oil is low I almost
thought I put desiel gas in it kinda how it felt but I didn't or
felt like had water in gas I don't know any ideas please

Please can any one give me any ideas or ever had this problem was it too hot low oil cheap gas water in gas I don't know never done this before ever any ideas would help a lot thank u
