"Check Engine" light question

I live in Canada, and it seems like when I go to the states the CHECK ENGINE light comes on after a day or two. Could this be because of the ethanol in US gas? Or is that a coincidence? Any other things I could check?

Just have the codes read. This will give you a better idea of what the issue is.
