Loud, grinding sound ONLY when first driving

Asked by atoben1 Feb 11, 2016 at 09:11 AM about the 2006 Kia Sorento LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi there!
So here's my issue: when I start my sorento in the morning, it sounds like a
large stick in a bicycle's tires. It's so loud, but once I hit a certain speed
(20mph) it quiets significantly. It pretty much goes away once I am on main
roadways going +45mph. Note: I do intend to take my vehicle to my
mechanic after work today, i just want to be sure it is safe to drive there. OR
if there is anything I can do on my own. No warning lights are on, btw. Car is
running fine as usual. No vibrations.

This sounds like one of the fans is hitting something when there on. If this is the case it could cause a hole in the radiator. Have it looked at ASAP.
