A generator "exciter is the rotating field inside the alternator ... it is nothing more than a rotating magnet and by varying the strength of the field you can control the output ... when the car is off the field has no voltage ,,, my point was to check to see if that field was getting voltage when turned on.... Another thing that will prevent an alternator from working is an internal regulator ,,, sorry if I seemed short,, but many of us volunteers are concerned that someone without the proper knowledge can get hurt or damage the part

I may be able to get you through this ,,, do u have a DVM? "could it be the alternator/generator relay in the fuse box by the steering wheel? ",,, yes it has a 10 amp fuse

No, i do not have a DVM, but i did go ahead and pull the alternator back off two days ago to get it checked so i can rule that out. Will go from there. And apology accepted.

Inside the box where the relay is you will see a Green/white and a Green/black wire // the green/ black wire must have voltage when the key is in the "run" position, Next >> Go on Ebay and buy a DVM ,,, they cost less then $10 Good luck
