Hit transmission flashing

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra truck and I was driving it last
night and the dash was reading hot transmission what
does that mean

The transmission is overheating. I might be from due to low fluid level if it is leaking or you were towing a larger than normal load or other issues. Have the transmission serviced. The shop can diagnose the issue and or pull the trouble codes.
