Car will start but does not stay running for long

I have 2002 jaguar S Type V6 car will start but
only runs for a minute or so what could be the
problem

It could be many things and can I assume the Check engine light is on? I would scan for the OBDii trouble codes first. Do you hear any unusually noises?
