Possible catalytic converter may be plugged, does the exhaust sound like it is hissing?

I agree with Rowefast's answer. But I wonder/question how many miles does the 97 has? Its my experience that catalytic doesn't get clogged under 250,000 miles. But that too depend on the quality of gas and or if any other substances that may have been used. If you aren't interested in changing, remove pipe. take a sharp object and jab inside and loosened and remove the honey comb to determined any improvement.
