Question type: Maintenance & Repair

sensor indicates a LOW temp. reading.  There is no cap on the radiator.  How do you check the water level or whether a thermostat is stuck open?

you should be able to see the coolant level in the overflow tank. kind of a white plastic tank with a small hose running to it from the radiator. you can see if the coolant level is where it is supposed to be there. If you start the car from cold, and feel the upper radiator hose, it will warm up slowly until the car reaches temperature, then the cooling fans will come on. then it should get pretty hot pretty quickly. if it doesn't, the stat could be stuck. it should run 5-10 minutes for this to happen.
