Will I need a rebuild or replacement? 1996 Blazer 4.3 2WD Won't shift into overdrive. Makes a loud spinning noise like the starter being engaged. This happened in 2 days

If you here noise coming from tranny,more than likely you need a rebiuld.

there are 2 ways this is happening. Either it is shifting into 4th gear and slipping (noise may be the bands slipping metal-to-metal inside the transmission. Or it never makes the shift into 4th (hangs into 3rd) and also you may notice it doesn't have 1st either. If so that would be a shift solenoid. But if there is any slipping you will need a rebuild. 3rd and 4th are the most common gears to lose
