I got my new Toyota Sienna 2 months ago and, to my surprise, the gas consumption is higher than me previous one by 40%. My previous Sienna had the same engine, everything absolytely the same but the transmission. Apparently the new model has a different transmission. My previous car averaged 9 L/100 KM, the new one: 13. Same driving conditions, same road I drive it on, same distances, same driver. How can that be? Is it a known issue, I wonder? This does not have teh same pickup either. You need to press and press on the accelerator to get some results. Very dissapointing. I LOVED my old car.

The U.S. government says that your 2006 Toyota Sienna will average 12.4L/100km in the city and 9.8L/km. on the highways (www.fueleconomy.gov). These numbers are almost identical to those posted for a 2001 Sienna. For now I would say that your car is still in its break-in period, assuming that you bought it new. As a rule fuel performance will improve considerably after the first couple of thousand miles driven in a new car. If your patience runs out, I would consult the dealer who sold you the car. Bovan - thank you for the answer. The dealship said that I should wait and see, same as you, that the car must be in the break in period, still learning my driving habits. I am over 8,000 km now - same situation. One thing is sure: I have not changed my habits and the consumption is 40% higher. Very hard on the pocket. Any other thoughts?
