2007 Toyota Corolla Sport 1.8L

I can not get this car to even crank.  When I turn the key nothing happens except the
lights dim like they always did when you first start a car. HELP!!!! I purchased this car
new.  My grandson put a radio in it and it did run after that, but I think he may have
blown the engine, but not sure, seeing it does not start I can not do compression test.  
The oil was dark but not milky car was not overheating, but it was making some kind
of ticking noise before it stopped running.

If this problem did not start until the radio was installed the radio power wire is wired to the wrong power source. Just undo the power wire that the radio is on and the vehicle should run again.
