my 97 suburban won't start

Asked by mudly May 10, 2017 at 07:11 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet Suburban C1500 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

as I pulled up to a red light, the engine died.  I have never had a problem of any kind with this vehicle.  I tried a quick, simple method of checking the fuel pump after not hearing it run, I poured a little gas into the throttle body and it started right up, it died as soon as the gas ran out.  I have a nearly full tank of fresh gas, changed the fuel pump, filter, and relay but it will not start.  I am also having the same problem in my other 97 suburban!   I have helped a lot of people  with a multitude of car problems but my own really has me stumped, please help.

So did you get the new fuel pump to run? Prime up when you turn the key to the on position? If so, it may be the spider injection leaking. This could be checked by doing a fuel bleed down test. Fuel pressure should be 56 to 63 lbs just for your information.

Now I don't know much, but I ran into a similar problem with my suburban. After a many days of frustration I found a little button on the passenger side on the wall just to the right of where your right foot would be if your sitting in the passenger seat. I believe it was a fuel pump reset thing. Pushed that sucker down and it started right up. It took about 10 min. It might be worth a shot.

Same problem, sitting in a wal-mart parking lot overnight. will try fuel pump diagnostics first thing. The fuel pump is somewhat new, so I will replace the relay. What is this magic button Sokoto is talking about???? I will look for the fuel cut off safety switch... Sure hope I get it started.... Has been very dependabile (other than this...)... MarkMannM2
