Inspection Red Flags

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am currently in the process of purchasing a 2007 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro with 98K miles
for 5550. The price is a pretty good deal, but there were some red flags during the
inspection and I want a clearer idea if these red flags are things that should stop me from
purchasing the vehicle. The inspection concluded that the car needs maintenance and
that the transfer case fluid is leaking and there was also a leak at front differential. The
maintenance is understandable, but the transfer case fluid is leaking and the leak at front
differential is a concern. Are those big concerns and are they expensive to replace?

At the current mileage it is a little questionable for trany seals to be leaking so early. But it has happened before 100,000 km before. If the axels are still solidly in place there is no problem and it just needs seals. If the main axel is leaking this is just a common worn out seal i had mine done at 350,000 tho so have the mechanic check out the split axel in the middle of the car as this commonly means the spindle bearing is loose or damaged. The split axels in these cars has a large bearing in the middle of the shaft to hold it up and when they start to go they vibrate and causes the seals to go out early. or at least that's from my perspective. seals will run you up about 500$ at the garage and as long as the engine is sound it is a good buy. Tho do your self a favor and find a GOOD rated VW/Audi specialist shop to do any work on this car. You will know the difference because they only commonly work on vw's and audis and nothing else. they should know every nut and bolt on the car intimately

I am also linking a website i commonly go to find out what the common issues are with a car before i buy it check it out as i was glossing the page and noticed that the particular engine in this car has a tendency to get large build ups of carbon deposits in the engine if its ill maintained.
