why gear shift moves but dash shows suv in N won't go in gear

After backing out of my driveway went to change gear to drive vehicle stalled
out.  The vehicle will restart but the gear shift will not move until I reset
solenoid on side of gear shift console.  The shift will move but the dash does
not change from N and vehicle does not engage into any gear.  Could this be
a CPU or sensor issue

The shift problem was the bushing on the shift cable where it connects to gear lever on transmission. I bought a replacement bushing and it works fine. I believe the stall out was from the heat it was upper 90s to low 100s for a few weeks. I am going to have it checked out and maybe tune up.
