1997 Chevy Camaro 3.8L V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I got a 1997 Chevy Camaro, didn't wanna crank.
Tried to but would cut off.. I bought it from a young
lady who said a mechanic told her it needed a new
wiring harness. So I got it cheap. I've tried/tested
the fuses/relays, and done the resistor, etc.
Checked batt and everything. Tried bypassing the
vats. She did say that they got a new key.. I'm
thinking my prob is gonna be in the steering
column. I could be wrong. Help? I've taken out my
dash, over looked everything. I'm a single mother
solely supporting my four children. Is help on the
way y'all?! Lol. Find me on Facebook, Mandy L.

There's too much going on with this car, based on your question. Bad wiring harness, bad VATS, ripped out dash, etc. At this point who knows what's wrong. Start by making sure the VATS is not keeping the car immobilized. Do you know if the new key is even working? Second, you can't troubleshoot if dash is ripped out, get it back together then start over. Make sure all harness connectors are solid, same for battery cables, use a multimeter to check for continuity in the harness and cables, that the terminals are tight and not corroded. To me, it sounds as if the VATS went bad or the key was replaced without proper reprogramming and the previous owner tried to blame bad wiring.

I have a 1997 3,8 camaro my question is that when I start it up and it let off fumes from the exhaust that is very loud is there something I could do too eliminate this?
