Bad engine rod bearing at 90200 miles. 04 S60 2.4L engine ID B5244S6. (calif emissions) Used Mobil One oil (10w30) Car not abused. Why rod bearing. Poor design? Why calif engine when never on west coast? Compensation from Mobil One? Costing about $4500 to replace engine. Everyone said that it is odd to have.

I have an 05 v70 with that engine (in california though as you might expect), with a similar failure - conn rod came right through the side of engine block. mileage about 130k. not what you'd expect from volvo. dont know why you would have that engine in NY though - b5244s vin 61 seems to be standard nationally except california. possibly dealer ordered the wrong model.

just found this on the vin 64 s6 engine which may explain. 64 = B5244S6 S60/V70 2.4 FWD - Automatic only in the States of CA, NY, MA, VT, ME, RI, NH and Contiguous States http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2006/2006_VIN-VIC/vin2006.html

I have a Volvo 2003 S60 that had to have an emissions test. While connected to the emissions test computer, the computer asked questions, but the questions only were about half way completed, and the computer started over again at the beginning asking the same questions. It then said that the computer was not communicating with the Volvo. Have you heard of this problem? The mechanic suggested I may have to spend $4,500 to replace the computer. 1 Answer

The emissions test computer asked questions but only completed about half the questions before starting over again at the beginning. It did this three times.
