CONVERTIBLE TOP LATCH

2002 C70 when putting the top up, the rear right latch closes before the top is seated, so the top hits the closed latch and will not go any further. after several attempts it catches and locks the rear of the top in place. what causes this? Can I close the top manually?

Client, related this to me before service: Had to manually lower the top into storage area. Took vehicle back to dealership, they mentioned nothing about micro-switches or potentiometers but rather told them that they would have to purchase both a left and right tappet, at a cost of almost $3,000. Then they would be able to determine what else would be required to "fix." Regards Check the MICRO SWITCHES!..
