I have a 2006 Mini Cooper S that had the water pump replaced. The serpentine belt came off the next day. Didn't they have to remove the belt for the repair in the first place?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Mini Cooper S that needed to have the water pump replaced because it was leaking. After picking the car up and driving it for a day, the serpentine belt came completely off. I had the car towed back to the dealership and they are claiming they never touched the belt to remove and replace the water pump. Is that possible?
