The "check engine" light is your car's computer trying to tell you something is not right with your vehicle. Take it to a parts store to have the fault code scanned for free and get it fixed. Then the light can be turned off with the scanner. If you want to ignore the warning light, you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes and the light will go off and the record of the fault code will be deleted as well. But it's best to not ignore these things.
