It appears they only produced 1451 Shinsen edition miatasin 2003 for the United States. The number sold with hardtops will vary since it could be factory ordered with a hardtop or dealer ordered after the car was allocated to the dealer.

Also you could call Mazda USA to see if they know. I once called and they where able to tell me the production # for my 1993 LE miata.
