Hi, I have been working on Mazdas for a short bit now..short answer, no. Not to say you can't try. You can see if the motor mounts match up from a newer engine. Miatas from 1989-1996(97) share the same platform. Then 1996(7) they changed to a new platform, from 1996(7)-2003. Then 2003-2006 a newer platform was made. Then in 2008-present they have a newer platform. Remember now, with each frame change, the changes are made for a reason, the newer engines usually have more power and torque, and so the frames are designed to handle them. If you put in a new engine, with more power, I would recommend putting in sway bars in the front and rear frame areas of the car. Good luck, they are fun little rides.

why don't you do a b.p. swap and turbo that .. it will be an easier swap.
